Dakota 38 commemorating the 150th Anniversary - Dec 27,2012

Dec, 26 2012 is the 150th Anniversary Of the largest mass hanging execution in the history of the U.S. The following year 2 more Dakota men were hanged from a single scaffold in Mankato, MN. Every year since 2008 40 riders go by horseback from Pine Ridge, South Dakota to Mankato, Minnesota. To represent the riders who were forced to make that ride to their ends to commemorate the executions of Dec. 26, 1862. A documentary film was released in 2011 to tell their story and to explain the history behind the Dakota 38, lest we never forget. The U.S.-Dakota War played out along several all-too-familiar themes of U.S. history: broken treaties and unfulfilled promises.
