President Barack Obama pressured Congress on Wednesday to move quickly to address the massive influx of children at the border, and he aimed to deflect mounting criticism over his administration's attention to the issue. He hailed the efforts of Dallas County officials and religious groups to help care for up to 2,000 children. And he called pointedly on Texas Republicans to help Congress move quickly on the White House's request for an emergency $3.7 billion. ?The problem here is not a major disagreement around the actions that could be helpful in dealing with the problem,? ?The only question at this point is why wouldn't the Texas delegation or any of the other Republicans who are concerned about this not want to put this on a fast track?? Obama's call for action came as children continue to flood into Texas from Central America. More than 50,000 unaccompanied immigrants or families have been caught entering the U.S. illegally from Mexico in the last nine months, most from Honduras, Guatemala or El Salvador. The White House has said most will ultimately be deported.Dallas Morning News
