No matter how you look at it many, if not most, of the social and economic issues in the "Deep South" directly relate to the poor and the impoverished as a result of being under educated and the hopelessness that comes from such a life. There are several movements throughout these areas and the nation to turn the tide by improving the educational systems now in play. Nowhere is this more evident than in the State of South Carolina. Tuesday morning the entire show will be dedicated to the issue of education. The good, the bad, the ugly and the new in education will be examined. South Carolina is one State experiencing such a movement. Public Charter Schools, such as VIrtus Academy of South Carolina, is just one of several schools hoping to open their doors to students in the 2015-2016 school year. Business leaders, community leaders, as well as, education leaders from surrounding colleges and universities have been working together in Florence, SC, the Heart of the Great Pee Dee Region, to prepare for their hearing before the State in a quest to obtain perimission to open their unique Public Charter School. The process is long and full of obstacles. In fact, the process itself is full of politcal bumps, misunderstanding on what is a Public Charter School, the new teaching/learning methods and new laws that are dampering the hopes of many in the State. But, this is not true in Florence, SC. Joining me "In the Pickle Barrel" will be members of the organizing group, a State Representative or two and several concerned citizens who want to see Virtus Academy become a reality. You can join in the conversation thru the Chat Room or call in at 855-236-2486.
