An Alabama candidate is a step away from making history. While black men have been charged and convicted of crimes, there are many black women who are stepping in the gap. Take for instance in Alabama, where Democrats in Alabama's seventh U.S. congressional district voted for Democrat Terri Sewell. If she wins in the general election, she'll be the first African American woman to serve in congress as a representative from Alabama. But the Democrats don't rule the south. Nearly thirty-two African-Americans are running this election season as Republicans. Now if you only watched the mainstream media, you would think there were only three: South Carolinas’ Tim Scott, Allen West of Florida, and Republican strategist Angela McGlowan of Mississippi. But there are 28 others who are running under the banner of the Republican Party., the most since reconstruction. Many are running in the deep south under the Republican banner. Is the south more “progressive” than its northern neighbors. Let's talk about politics, black women, Democrats, and Republicans, and the rise of the black south, tonight, with our special guests, Terri Sewell, considered to be one of the Next 10 Women to Watch in Politics, tonight on The Slugfest, "if you can handle the truth."
